Professor Dr. Lim is one of the first to study the mechanical properties of human valves which in a way has contributed towards the fabrication of artificial heart valves. He is also the first in the country to advocate work on Alternative Energy from biological sources. He has served the School of Physics, USM with distinction. He has been the Chairman, Coordinator, Leader, Member of several committees and programmes in the School, the University and outside the University. He serves as consultant on Bioenergy with some local companies and as President of South Asia Regional Headquarters of the International Energy Foundation.

X-ray Structure Determination

Professor Dr Fun is known for his contribution in crystallography research. To date he has published over 1300 Science Citation Index (SCI) papers and is the 23rd most cited crystallographer in the world as given in the Cambridge Structural Database. He has served the university with great academic distinction and has made the X-Ray Crystallographic Unit of the School of Physics into a top-notch x-ray structural determination facility in Asia. He has drawn post-graduate students, post-doctoral research fellows and scientists from Turkey, Iran, India, Pakistan, Japan and China. His research emphasizes in determining the properties of materials with potential technological applications for Malaysian industries and structural analysis of natural products. He has been honoured with a number of honorary professorships from accredited universities in the Peoples’ Republic of China.

Professor Dato’ Dr Halimah is known as an active researcher and academic by her peers. Her innovative technological ideas carried out through her various IT research, has won her many awards both nationally and internationally. For her outstanding contribution at the interface between technology and the society, she was awarded the ICT Excellent Teacher Award 2005 by the Malaysian National Computer Confederation (MNCC), KTAK, MOSTI and Maxis.
