It has detrimental impact on the health and economy of the ASEAN countries over the past decades. Particularly, the persistent haze episodes imply that the diplomatic effort is reaching stagnancy. This urged the Malaysian Government to consider a legal approach to push for the progress of mitigating the transboundary pollution. Extraterritorial application of an act is inevitable and is nothing short of challenging.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p6\">As an appointed strategic partner of MESTECC, ASM formed a task force to study the feasibility of having a Local and Transboundary Pollution Act, chaired by Professor Dato\u2019 Ir Dr A. Bakar Jaafar FASc. On 20 December 2019, the task force successfully presented the findings to the Minister of MESTECC, delivering the justification for having a transboundary pollution act, as well as proposing crucial mechanisms that would enable effective law enforcement.<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row]<\/p>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Transboundary pollution is pollution that originates from one country but crosses the border, causing damage to the environment of another country.
