SO2020 explores the progress and development of Malaysia\u2019s Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) ecosystem since 1991, the year which coincided with the declaration of Vision 2020. SO2020 investigates the STI ecosystem and its impact over the last 30 years on the dimensions of <strong>economy<\/strong>, <strong>society<\/strong> and the <strong>environment<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The past two reports have garnered much attention, and over 50% of its recommendations have been taken up by relevant stakeholders. The online version of both reports have recorded about 100,000 impressions, with SO2020 also anticipated to gain similar traction across stakeholders from the Government, industry, the scientific community and civil society groups.[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<strong>At a Glance <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Objectives of the Study:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>To examine the current and past status of the STI landscape in Malaysia, including key trends, challenges, and achievements<\/li>\n<li>To determine the impact of Malaysia\u2019s STI ecosystem from the perspective of economic, societal and environment<\/li>\n<li>To identify the strengths and gaps in the STI ecosystem<\/li>\n<li>To propose key recommendations to future-proof Malaysia against global uncertainties<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>SO2020 is considered a departure from previous editions, as it emphasises on an \u201cecosystem approach\u201d that identifies the gaps and strengths in Malaysia\u2019s STI ecosystem through the 8i Enablers model. An ecosystem is simply described as key enablers that interact with each other in a specific environment that creates value for society. The study will propose overarching recommendations to transform Malaysia into a developed and progressive nation by 2030.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_single_image source=&#8221;external_link&#8221; external_img_size=&#8221;full&#8221; alignment=&#8221;center&#8221; onclick=&#8221;link_image&#8221; caption=&#8221;Young Scientists Network members strategising on future engagements at the 2019 YSN-ASM Colloquium&#8221;][vc_column_text]SO2020\u2019s groundwork started in the final quarter of 2019, while its development shifted into full swing throughout 2020. The study is designed to be conducted based on quantitative and qualitative data. The COVID-19 pandemic caused most stakeholder engagements to be carried out in hybrid mode (a mix of virtual and physical engagements). A total of 50 engagements were carried out in 2020, with over 31 meetings (steering committee and working group discussions), five workshops (two harmonisation and three data consolidation exercises) and 14 interviews.
