ASM as the strategic partner of the Economic Planning Unit (EPU) of the Prime Minister\u2019s Office has undertaken the roadmap for the national agenda on WST2040 development study for 20 months, starting from May 2020 to December 2021, with a mission to transform the water sector from an economic enabler into a dynamic economic sector that contributes to the national GDP and also to ensure water security and sustainability for every Malaysian. WST2040 will be achieved through its twin objectives: \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    A total of 87 strategies, 601 targets and 601 KPIs are to be implemented over the next four Malaysia Plans (MP), starting with 106 immediately implementable projects in the 12th<\/sup> MP. It is envisioned that if the potential of the water sector is fully optimised by transforming the water sector and water ecosystem, Malaysia will be able to achieve a value-add of RM13.3billion, contributing as much as 0.46% to the national GDP by 2040, as compared to a value-add of RM4.5billion. and a contribution of 0.32% in 2019. However, this transformation can only be possible with knowledge, technology and ultimately, a developed and sound water ecosystem that is sustainable, effective and holistic.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    The WST2040 study addressed eight additional sub-sectors as follows<\/p>\n

    • Advocacy, Awareness, Capacity Building and Public Participatory Platforms (AACB)<\/b><\/span><\/li>\n
    • Integrated Water Sector Data and RDIC Centre (IWSDC)<\/b><\/span><\/li>\n
    • IR 4.0 in the various Water Sub-sectors (IR4.0)<\/b><\/span><\/li>\n
    • Water-Food-Energy-Nexus (WFE\u00a0 <\/span>Nexus)<\/b><\/span><\/li>\n
    • Virtual Water and Water Footprint (VW&WF)<\/b><\/span><\/li>\n
    • Climate Change Impact and Adaptation (CCIA)<\/b><\/span><\/li>\n
    • Alternative Water Financing (AWF)<\/b><\/span><\/li>\n
    • Water as an Economic Sector (WES)<\/b><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
