ASM Shares i-Connect Success at D-8 Technology Summit
September 3, 2024Congratulations to the 2024 Dr Ranjeet Bhagwan Singh (RBS) Research Grant Recipient, Dr Muhammad Farid Nazer Muhammad Faruqu! The Senior Lecturer at Universiti Malaya received RM50,000 grant to pursue his research on lung cancer. The Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), YB Tuan Chang Lih Kang, presented the grant at an earlier event.
In his speech, he emphasised that strengthening research and development (R&D) infrastructure, especially in personalised medicine and digital healthcare, will empower the country’s position as a leader in global research and position Malaysia as a hub for cutting-edge medical research. Since 1997, The RBS Medical Trust Fund has funded 28 research projects, significantly contributing to medical research in Malaysia.
In his welcome remarks, ASM President, Academician Datuk Dr Tengku Mohd Azzman Shariffadeen FASc, highlighted that ASM is undertaking initiatives such as the Malaysia Science Endowment (MSE) to promote and accelerate collaboration in STI. It is anticipated that MSE will be able to raise more than the planned amount from non-government resources.
As a yearly tradition, the RBS Memorial Lecture has been held. We thank Professor Keh Kooi Kee, a Malaysian lecturer at Tsinghua University, China, who delivered a lecture titled ‘Revolutionising Health: The Impact of Stem Cells on Basic Research and Medicine,’ exploring the unique properties of stem cells and their role in understanding disease mechanisms and development.
