The Academy of Sciences Malaysia organised a Memorial Lecture in conjunction with the announcement of the Dr Ranjeet Bhagwan Singh (RBS) Medical Research Grant recipients for 2019 and 2020. The online session was broadcasted via Zoom, Facebook Live and ASM’s YouTube Channel. In attendance during the event was Professor Datin Paduka Dr Teoo Soo Hwang FASc, Chair of the RBS Medical Trust Fund Selection Committee. Together with her was the guest of honour Dato’ Parang Abai @ Thomas, Deputy Secretary General (STI Planning and Culture) from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation Malaysia.

Since its inception in 1997, the Dr Ranjeet Bhagwan Singh Medical Research Trust Fund has funded 27 research projects and 11 technical workshops. It was an initiative by the late Dr Ranjeet Bhagwan Singh, an extraordinary visionary and philanthropist in the medical and health sciences field.

The 2026 Ranjeet Bhagwan Singh Grant offers up to RM50,000 to support young researchers in advancing healthcare impact. Apply by 20 March 2026.
Dr. Ranjeet Bhagwan Singh was a medical scientist who improved diagnostic labs in Malaysia. He started a fund to support education for the underprivileged. Each year, the RBS Research Grant helps one young Malaysian scientist with medical research.
Dr Chong Lor Huai of Monash University Malaysia received the 2025 RBS Medical Research Grant for her cancer immunotherapy innovation project.
