July 17, 2025ASM President, Academician Datuk Dr Tengku Mohd Azzman Shariffadeen FASc, led an official visit to China from 28 May to 4 June 2025 in conjunction with the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) International Symposium 2025 in Beijing.
During the symposium themed “Sustainable Development and Inclusive Collaboration: The Responsibilities of the Scientific Community,” the ASM President delivered a keynote titled “Enhancing Community Readiness to Embrace an S&T-Intensive Future.”
He emphasised the strategic articulation of a values-driven, foresight-informed, and mission-oriented approach to shaping a sustainable, inclusive, and technology-enabled future.
As part of the visit, the ASM President held strategic meetings with the CAS leadership and experts from the Institutes of Science and Development (CASISD), Computing Technology (CAS ICT), and Automation (CASIA), exploring collaborative opportunities in AI, green technology, biodiversity, and ICT.
He also engaged with representatives from the Malaysian Embassy in Beijing. He also visited the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT).
The visit continued with a 3-day tour of Beijing, Tianjin, and Hebei, organised by the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs (SAFEA). It offered valuable insights into China’s innovation landscape and national development strategies, including landmark visits to the Xiong’an New Area and the Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area (E-Town), centres of cutting-edge research, urban planning, and industrial transformation.
