ASM President Calls for Human-Centric Innovation
October 18, 2025Dr Chong Lor Huai of Monash University Malaysia was the recipient of the 2025 Dr Ranjeet Bhagwan Singh (RBS) Medical Research Grant.
During the event on 25 September 2025, she has received RM50,000 to fund her research titled “Development of an Immunoassay-on-a-Chip for Evaluating T-Cell and NK-Cell Infiltration in Cancer Immunotherapy,” which aims to advance innovative approaches in cancer treatment.
Delivering remarks on behalf of the Deputy Minister of MOSTI, YB Dato’ Mohammad Yusof Apdal, Deputy Secretary-General (Planning and Science Enculturation) MOSTI, Dato’ Ruziah Shafei emphasised that the government remains steadfast in supporting scientists, empowering early-career researchers, and promoting initiatives that drive national progress.
ASM President, Academician Datuk Dr Tengku Mohd Azzman Shariffadeen FASc, stressed that research must deliver meaningful impact beyond funding. He urged early-career scientists to embrace their role as solution-providers, shaping Malaysia’s response to national and global challenges.
At the same event, the RBS Annual Memorial Forum was also organised. Themed “Harnessing Bioactive Natural Products for Healthy Ageing,”, the forum highlighted that much remains to be explored in leveraging biodiversity to enhance health span.
Strong partnerships among government agencies, research institutions, and industry players are much needed, as Malaysia’s rich biodiversity holds great potential for discovering natural compounds to treat diseases and support healthy ageing and preventive healthcare.
