ASM Science Journal: ZnAl-LDH Catalysts to Turn Waste Cooking Oil into Biodiesel
September 18, 2025Malaysia, through the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) and the Academy of Sciences Malaysia (ASM), participated in APEC SOM3 and its related meetings in Incheon, South Korea, from 4 to 13 August 2025.
ASM CEO, Puan Hazami Habib, is contributing to high-level discussions, reflecting Malaysia’s commitment to strengthening international science diplomacy and positioning ASM as a trusted partner in advancing regional collaboration in science, technology, and innovation (STI).
On 11-12 August 2025, she chaired the APEC Policy Partnership on Science, Technology and Innovation (PPSTI) Plenary Meetings, which were attended by 15 economies throughout the region.
During the two days of meeting, the PPSTI fora discussed matters on the advancement of STI in the region including the introduction of APEC Scientist Travel Card to ease the regional exchange of knowledge, the implementation of Mission-Oriented Innovation Policy for pilot projects, the development of APEC Open Science Alliance to enable open innovation, ASPIRE 2025 towards scientific excellence, amongst many more.
ASM’s involvement in this further strengthened our commitment to democratising STI beyond our national borders, but also to the regional level.
Beyond the plenary, she was also involved in several significant programmes throughout the week, including:
- Cross-Fora Collaboration with other APEC working groups, highlighting the integration of STI in areas such as transport, women and economy, smart mobility and regional resilience.
- The APEC Women in STEM Symposium focuses on empowering women and driving inclusivity in emerging fields such as artificial intelligence.
- The ASPIRE Ceremony, recognising outstanding contributions to research and innovation across APEC economies.
- Strategic dialogues and industry engagements, including site visits to leading research and development institutions.
Through these platforms, ASM continues to reinforce Malaysia’s voice in global and regional discussions on connectivity, innovation and prosperity, ensuring that STI remains central to APEC’s shared vision for the future.
