[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]ASM successfully organised the first Precision Biodiversity<\/a> (PBD) Alliance Meeting on 14 February 2024. Attended by representatives from various ministry bodies, government and state agencies, academia, and industry, the PBD Alliance is an effort to establish an alliance that drives the development of Precision Biodiversity and facilitates the adoption of technologies in Malaysia.<\/p>\n

The opening address from ASM CEO Puan Hazami Habib underscored the significance of the PBD within the framework of ASM’s Planetary Health<\/a> initiative. It continued with the Chairperson of PBD Alliance, Dr Helen Nair FASc, delivering an overview of PBD to the attendees, highlighting the achievements and impact of the PBD pilot project in Pasoh Forest Reserve<\/a>, Negeri Sembilan.<\/p>\n

Professor Ir Ts Dr Ahmad ‘Athif Mohd Faudzi<\/a> led a presentation on the progress update of the Digitalisation and IoT Programme for Biodiversity. Attendees were then divided into groups to receive briefings on the project scopes of PBD.<\/p>\n

Through the Alliance Meeting, it is hoped that PBD alliance members can broaden their collaboration to realise the objective of real-time biodiversity monitoring by 2040.[\/vc_column_text][vc_message]Being the 12th<\/sup> mega-biodiverse country on earth, Malaysia has a global responsibility to conserve its biodiversity. By adopting Paper on Precision Biodiversity (PBD)<\/strong>, the country will show the world how this first-time-ever approach, can more effectively protect the planet and simultaneously deliver socio-economic returns.<\/p>\n

The vision is for Malaysia to be a nation that is informed and inspired to value and conserve bioresources<\/strong> while recognising the importance of investment in frontier technologies<\/strong> for the protection of biodiversity. Responsible and ethical stewardship<\/strong> of our ecosystem and establishment of a biodiversity-linked economy<\/strong> supported by sustainably managed biological resources will be driven by precision technologies<\/strong> alongside conventional approaches.<\/p>\n

Establishment of a national genome database<\/strong> to generate economic growth and promote human wellbeing is set to open up opportunities for translational research.
