[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]From cells as the basic units of life to the chemistry of life, the concept of information storage in DNA, and the evolution of life, Sir Paul Nurse<\/a>, 2001 Nobel Prize Winner in Physiology or Medicine, delivered a concise and highly informative lecture that encompassed a wide range of life science knowledge.<\/p>\n

ASM and the National Institute of Biotechnology Malaysia<\/a> (NIBM) were honoured to host Sir Paul Nurse for the Nobel Laureate Lecture “What is Life?” on 24 June 2024. To quote him, “The life we are a part of is complex, and understanding it is fundamental to our civilisation and can improve our humankind”.<\/p>\n

The 25th<\/sup> edition of the Nobel Laureate Lecture attracted participants from government and private sectors, experts, lecturers, school and university students, and the general public. They engaged in a lively Q&A session moderated by ASM Vice-President, Academician Distinguished Professor Datuk Dr Looi Lai Meng<\/a> FASc.<\/p>\n

In his opening speech, Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, YB Tuan Chang Lih Kang<\/a>, emphasised Malaysia’s aspiration to have our Nobel Laureate, highlighting the inspiring work and relentless commitment to enhancing the nation’s science, technology, and innovation ecosystem.<\/p>\n

In his welcoming remarks, ASM President, Academician Datuk Dr Tengku Mohd Azzman Shariffadeen<\/a> FASc noted that the National Nobel Laureate program has raised awareness of the Nobel Prize in Malaysia. It has increased the visibility of high-calibre Malaysian scientists, some of whom have become members of research teams of Nobel Prize winners.<\/p>\n
