{"id":6275,"date":"2024-09-05T09:25:16","date_gmt":"2024-09-05T01:25:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.akademisains.gov.my\/asm-focus\/?p=6275"},"modified":"2024-12-31T09:26:15","modified_gmt":"2024-12-31T01:26:15","slug":"empowering-cancer-care-dr-melissa-lim-at-mascc-2024","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.akademisains.gov.my\/asm-focus\/empowering-cancer-care-dr-melissa-lim-at-mascc-2024\/","title":{"rendered":"Empowering Cancer Care: Dr Melissa Lim at MASCC 2024"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<span data-contrast=\"auto\">In May 2024, the Academy of Sciences Malaysia nominated <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/expert.unimas.my\/profile\/3042\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Dr Melissa Lim Siaw Han<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.unimas.my\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">UNIMAS<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">) for the second call of the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/aassa.asia\/?ckattempt=1\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">AASSA<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> Prof Yoo Hang Kim Young Women Scientists Award, through which she was selected and had the opportunity to attend the Multinational Association of Supportive Care in Cancer (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/mascc.org\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">MASCC<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">) Annual Meeting 2024 in Lille, France, from 27 &#8211; 29 June 2024. This year&#8217;s conference focused on empowering those impacted by cancer and addressing the complexities of supportive care.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Dr Melissa delivered an impactful presentation on the challenges of delivering cancer care to a multi-ethnic population in Sarawak. Her insights sparked meaningful discussions and underscored the urgent need for tailored, patient-centred solutions in diverse regions.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The meeting also highlighted key areas of focus, including expanding supportive care to the home, managing emerging toxicities, and advancing quality improvement in cancer care. Notably, there were engaging discussions on bridging the digital divide for underserved communities and strengthening survivorship programs, which are the critical areas where our contributions can make a significant difference.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ASM is honoured to support and celebrate young women scientists like Dr Melissa, who are making strides in the global cancer research community.
