Heating the material at 250 \u00b0C broke its layered structure into mixed metal oxides, mainly zinc oxide, confirmed by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nanoscience.com\/techniques\/scanning-electron-microscopy\/\">scanning electron microscopy<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Fourier-transform_infrared_spectroscopy\">Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Thermal_analysis\">thermal analysis<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The cleaned oil had low free fatty acids, allowing a single transesterification step with methanol. <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Gas_chromatography\">Gas chromatography<\/a> showed common methyl esters in the biodiesel.
