Advances Blue Economy Initiatives"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On 12 March 2026, Malaysian Prime Minister <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/anwaribrahimofficial\/\">Dato\u2019 Seri Anwar Ibrahim<\/a> chaired the <em>Mesyuarat Majlis Tindakan Ekonomi Negara<\/em> (<a href=\"https:\/\/umno-online.my\/2026\/03\/13\/mesyuarat-majlis-tindakan-ekonomi-negara-2\/\">MTEN<\/a>) Bilangan 1 Tahun 2026, during which two key policy papers were deliberated, focusing on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bernama.com\/en\/news.php?id=2541284\">Orange Economy<\/a>, which encompasses the creative industries, and the nation\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/rmke12.ekonomi.gov.my\/storage\/fileUpload\/2021\/08\/2021082933_ms_makiko_yashiro.pdf\">Blue Economy<\/a> agenda.<\/p>\n<p>In addressing the Blue Economy, the meeting underscored the strategic importance of responsibly and sustainably leveraging marine resources, coastal areas, and inland waters.<\/p>\n<p>Dato\u2019 Seri Anwar emphasised that development in this sector must be sustainable, inclusive, and resilient, while delivering meaningful economic benefits to the nation and its people.<\/p>\n<p>The Malaysia Blue Economy Blueprint (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.akademisains.gov.my\/position-paper-on-blue-economy-unlocking-the-value-of-the-oceans\/\">MBEB<\/a>) 2026\u20132040 was developed by ASM as a strategic partner to the Ministry of Economy.<\/p>\n<p>The blueprint serves as a comprehensive long\u2011term plan to guide the development of Malaysia\u2019s blue economy and was strengthened through contributions from 36 experts comprising academics and industry representatives.<\/p>\n<p>By 2040, the implementation of blue economy policies and initiatives under the MBEB is projected to contribute to RM1.07 trillion to the national Gross Domestic Product (GDP), driven by advancements in technology and innovation across related sectors.<\/p>\n<p>The blueprint also highlights the critical role of science, technology, and innovation (STI) in ensuring that Malaysia\u2019s blue economy develops in a knowledge\u2011based, sustainable, and globally competitive manner.<\/p>\n<p>To realise these aspirations, seven high\u2011potential sectors have been identified as key drivers to strengthen socioeconomic progress, enhance national resilience, and position Malaysia as a leader in sustainable blue economy development.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Strategic Sectors<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Fisheries and Aquaculture<\/li>\n<li>Shipping and Maritime Transport Services<\/li>\n<li>Coastal and Maritime Tourism<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>New Opportunities Sectors<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Blue Renewable Energy<\/li>\n<li>Marine Biotechnology and Bioprospecting<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Exploratory Sectors<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Extractive Industries of Non-living Resources<\/li>\n<li>Desalination<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The continued collaboration between government, industry, and academia remains crucial to achieving the RM1.07 trillion GDP target by 2040, ensuring Malaysia&#8217;s blue economy delivers both national prosperity and global sustainability
