FASc.

Endorsed by the Premier of Sarawak, the report establishes a strategic framework to guide the responsible, competitive, and sustainable development of the state’s mineral resources.

At the heart of the Sarawak Mineral Policy are seven priority core areas identified to provide actionable guidance for the sustainable growth and development of Sarawak’s mineral resource sector.

These core areas are:

Mineral Resource Database

Regulatory Environment

Infrastructure and Logistics

Workforce and Talent Development

Institutional Framework

Investor Outreach

Sustainable Green Mining and Quarrying

Six Science, Technology, Innovation and Economy (STIE)-driven Strategic Thrusts guide the policy’s overall direction, shaping Sarawak’s mineral resource development agenda and providing clear, focused directions for implementation.

This will be carried out through promoting sustainable and responsible mineral resource development; strengthening governance and regulatory frameworks; adopting advanced technologies and digitalisation; creating value and expanding the economy; increasing local community participation and empowerment; and building capacity, research and development (R&D), and innovation.

The Phase 1 Policy outlines a clear vision, strategic priorities, and development pathways for Sarawak’s mineral resources. Supporting the seven core areas are 43 complementary key enablers designed to strengthen implementation and ensure policy objectives translate into action across relevant sectors.

Together, these key enablers provide a strong foundation for building a resilient, sustainable, and globally competitive mineral resource sector, while contributing to Sarawak’s long-term economic development agenda.

Looking ahead, Phase 2 of the project will focus on developing 25 implementation guidelines covering procedures, standards, and best practices to operationalise the policy framework. The guidelines are targeted for completion by mid-September 2026.

ASM presented Phase 1 of the Sarawak Mineral Policy, outlining seven core areas and six strategic thrusts for sustainable mineral development.

"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false
[1606
1648,1646,1647,1644,1645,59,1649
post-8159","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-july-2026","tag-academician-datuk-fateh-chand-fasc","tag-datuk-patinggi-tan-sri-abang-haji-abdul-rahman-zohari-tun-datuk-abang-haji-openg","tag-mr-teoh-lay-hock-fasc","tag-sarawak-mineral-policy","tag-sarawak-state","tag-sustainability","tag-ts-raja-shazrin-shah-raja-ehsan-shah-fasc

https://www.akademisains.gov.my/asm-focus/wp-content/uploads/sites/10/2026/08/sarawak-mineral-policy-3.jpg
["GET
