National Science Challenge (NSC) Impact Analysis

ASM has been organising the National Science Challenge (NSC) for the past 20 years from 1999 until 2018. From November 2019 to April 2020, an Impact Analysis Study on NSC was carried out with the objective to evaluate the impact of the competition (from 2008 to 2018) to improve future implementation of NSC.

Virtual National Science Challenge (VNSC)

In line with the new norm, the National Science Challenge (NSC) made a come back under a virtual competition format in 2020. Held from 25 August until 9 November 2020, VNSC was recognised as one of the Signature Programme of Minggu Sains Negara, an initiative by MOSTI. This year’s VNSC theme was “Towards a Pandemic Resillient Community Through Science”.

MAKNA Cancer Research Award

Tremendous efforts have been made by scientists to develop cancer prevention strategies, advance technologies to ensure early detection of cancer, as well as to elevate efficacy and precision in cancer treatment. Cancer researchers believe that their findings are promising and may contribute greatly to society. Hence, MAKNA set up the Cancer Research Award (MAKNA CRA) that is committed towards pushing the potential of Malaysian Young Scientists in cancer research.

The Mahathir Science Award Foundation (MSAF), ASM and International Science Council Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (ISC ROAP) jointly organized seven TropScience Webinars themed The Future Belongs the Tropics. These webinars aimed to increase visibility, build awareness of the goals of the International Conference on Tropical Sciences (TropSc) 2021, and attract participants to the conference.
