MOSTI War Room to Mitigate Food Security Issue in Malaysia

MOSTI initiated the Technology Solutions War Room in June 2022 to tackle food security issues, by using technologies that can help breeders, cultivators and farmers to enhance food supply chain sustainability. This initiative serves to connect key players, such as government agencies, entrepreneurs, industries, and academics to imperatively address food security issues.  

Following this, ASM was mandated by MOSTI to provide strategic advisory inputs and facilitate public-private collaboration to support the War Room initiative. 

The War Room Dashboard helped MOSTI to monitor trends of food security issues using specific keywords regarding high food prices, shortage of chicken and eggs supply, government efforts in agriculture to address the issue based on public comments and news. Also, ASM Agriculture Committee’s inputs on the reality check of the fertiliser and poultry industry helped the government to make informed decision and take appropriate action.

A collaboration between ASM and PETRONAS shall be reached through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to introduce new products of ammonium sulphate fertiliser to the local market and produce it locally for long-term sustainability. 

This is proof that a public-private collaboration will be able to provide better technology and solution to address food security issues.
