April 27, 2023The ASM Chapters were set up to bring together members of the ASM Expert Network, scientific community and strategic partners in the region to fulfil the vision and mission of ASM. The Chapter organises programmes and activities that are customised to address the needs and issues of the local communities through STIE. Through these activities, ASM hopes to increase its visibility and the active participation of the scientific community in regional or state level.
The ASM Northern Chapter organised its annual STEM Youth Program for 16 secondary schools from the northern region. The programme is designed to provide students experience in problem-based learning. They are coached through a series of workshops and remote mentoring to complete a mini project.
As for the ASM Sabah Chapter, ASM signed an MoU with the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation Sabah on 25 April 2022. The MoU aims to create cooperation between ASM and KSTI to explore opportunities to develop and support the strengthening of STI programmes in Sabah. Besides this, the Sabah Chapter also organised a five-day workshop to formulate a research implementation framework for the Imbak Canyon Rainforest Research and Training Programme (ICRRTP). The proposal aims to pursue research cooperation and development in Imbak Canyon Conservation Area among Malaysian researchers.
The ASM Southern Chapter organised the Planetary Health Forum, STEM talk and STEM hands-on activities in conjunction with MSN Keluarga Malaysia at Kota Tinggi, Johor.
