April 27, 2023i-Connect is an industry-led collaborative network that involves the quadruple helix of the industry, research community, government, and civil society for disruptive innovation. The goal of i-Connect is to facilitate Malaysian industries to leverage on S&T, developing innovative home-grown products and solutions through:
- Establish a collaborative network for disruptive innovation (new products/ service/ business models) in strategic industry sectors for Malaysia to leverage new economic opportunities to serve emerging markets and expand global reach.

Develop knowledge clusters and talent hub that Malaysian industries can engage towards becoming an innovation-led economy.

Enable demand-driven R&D and market-driven delivery system towards enhancing Malaysia’s innovation capacity.

To forecast and accelerate improvements in the ecosystem within the focus sectorial.

Developing Innovation Readiness Level (IRL) Framework

An instrument used by i-Connect in project evaluation, tracking and monitoring. It also interprets uncertainty and innovation process.

IRL model covers three main areas of innovation development:
– Technology Readiness Level (TRL)
– Business Readiness Level (BRL)
– Commercialisation Readiness Level (CRL)
i-Connect Steering committees introduced the implementation of the digital twin approaches and moon-shot strategy into the ecosystem within each sectorial. The moon-shot strategies may support the Neutral Entities (NEs) in hatching projects to support the focus area ecosystem, which could be integrated with other collaborative projects. This mission-oriented moon-shot may strengthen the value chain within ecosystem, producing greater value for the nation.
Moving forward, i-Connect will engage with more partners such as JAKIM and MyIPO. The two will be instrumental in the Halal Supply Chain Sector and to help i-Connect secure patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets for the intellectual property protection before commercialisation.
i-Connect aims to ensure a smooth transition by the Technology Commercialisation Accelerator (TCA) and to determine new sectors that can be aligned to the current four sectors.
