November 30, 2021The Academy of Sciences Malaysia organised the virtual 13th ASM General Assembly (GA) on 9 September 2021. The topic of the day was “Humanising the Economy Through People, Planet, Prosperity, Peace, and Partnerships (5Ps) of SDGs for Greater Impact.
The year 2020 was an extraordinary time in human history. The United Nations reported that the COVID-19 pandemic has had a huge impact in several areas, undermining decades of development efforts.
Essentially, the pandemic has signalled that it is high time to place emphasis on humanising the economy, creating a framework that emphasises equality, cooperation, and social impact within the SDGs.
The specialists present today will be talking how the 5Ps: People, Planet, Prosperity, Peace, and Partnerships should take centre stage as the basis for building a humanised economy.
The specialists present today are as follows:
- Professor Datuk Dr Denison Jayasooria, Principal Research Fellow at KITA Secretariat Head of All-Party Parliamentary Group Malaysia (APPGM)-SDG
- Ms Lakshmi Lavanya, Head of Policy & Climate Change from the World Wildlife Fund
- Distinguished Professor of Economics Dato’ Dr Rajah Rasiah from Universiti Malaya’s Asia-Europe Institute
- Ms Tan Mei Ling, Senior Country Operations Officer from the World Bank.
The panel session was moderated by ASM Senior Fellow Academician Emeritus Professor Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Dr Zakri Abdul Hamid. Tan Sri Zakri is currently the Chairman of Atri Advisory. He also spearheads the Wyss Foundation and National Geographic’s Campaign for Nature 30×30 initiative in the ASEAN region.
Along with the ASM General Assembly, a glimpse into the current flagship study of ASM, Science Outlook was also presented at this event, via a teaser video. Viewers were reminded to save the date for the launching of the Science Outlook 2020 Report, which will be held on 7 October 2021.
