ASM and Pahang Explore Strategic STIE Collaboration
March 19, 2026
ASM and Pusat IDEA Collaborate on Impact-Driven Research
March 19, 2026ASM welcomed a courtesy visit from Akademi Seni Budaya dan Warisan Kebangsaan (ASWARA) on 23 February 2026.
The visit opened discussions on strategic collaborations that bridge science, technology, innovation and the creative arts. The visit also focused on how the arts can amplify ASM’s science communication efforts and broaden public engagement.
With ASWARA’s practice-based approach that encompasses seven faculties, postgraduate programmes (Master’s and PhD), and a strong TVET orientation, there is clear potential to translate scientific research into impactful creative outputs.
Several possible collaboration pathways were explored:
- Repository collaboration: Integrating creative and digital works into the MOSP repository to strengthen knowledge dissemination.
- Podcast development: featuring conversations between scientists, artists, and industry players to make STI narratives more accessible and to explore topics that bridge science and the arts.
- Forum under the STIE platform: fostering interdisciplinary dialogue between the science and creative sectors.
- Documentary collaboration: leveraging ASWARA’s expertise in film production, including its initiatives with Perbadanan Kemajuan Filem Nasional Malaysia (FINAS), to showcase Malaysia’s scientific achievements through compelling storytelling.
- Exploration of dedicated STI channels to expand outreach, particularly among youth audiences.
- Potential integration of music therapy and STEAM elements into science outreach initiatives.
ASWARA, an institution under the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC), serves over a thousand students and offers programmes accredited by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA), positioning it as a valuable partner in advancing cross-disciplinary innovation.
By integrating creative expertise with scientific thought leadership, ASM aims to enhance how Malaysia’s innovation stories are documented, communicated, and experienced.
ASM looks forward to translating these discussions into meaningful initiatives that strengthen the nation’s STI landscape through arts-driven engagement.
