November 11, 2025ASM President, Academician Datuk Dr Tengku Mohd Azzman Shariffadeen FASc, called for human-centric innovation and ethical science at two important events: the MOSTA Oil Palm Best Practices Workshop 2025 (9-11 September 2025) and the MIMOS Technology Preview 2025 (2 October 2025).
At the MOSTA Oil Palm Best Practices Workshop 2025, Datuk Dr Tengku Mohd Azzman highlighted the need for transformation of Malaysia’s oil palm industry.
To future-proof Malaysia’s oil palm industry, he emphasised that the industry must build a collaborative innovation ecosystem that unites all quadruple helix, addressing industry challenges through a mission-oriented approach and leveraging new opportunities for the industry, such as inter-row planting crops, livestock integration, and rare earth mining.
During the site visit to an oil palm plantation in Sabah, he observed that local oil palm players in Malaysia have started adopting advanced technologies and solutions in their industry. However, there is room for further improvements through science and technology.
During the MIMOS Technology Preview 2025, Datuk Dr Tengku Mohd Azzman reflected on MIMOS’ 40-year journey in shaping Malaysia’s digital landscape.
He highlighted how technology, once envisioned to liberate and connect humanity, has in many ways been dominated by vested interests.
The ASM President urged a renewed focus on human-centric innovation guided by ethics, collaboration, and purpose, to ensure that science and technology truly serve the people.
Through both engagements, Datuk Dr Tengku Azzman reinforced ASM’s commitment to ensuring that science, technology, and innovation continue to serve as catalysts for Malaysia’s progress, advancing not only economic growth but also social well-being and environmental sustainability.
