Courtesy Visit to the Chief Secretary to the Government

On 10 February 2025, ASM paid a courtesy visit to the Chief Secretary to the Government, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Shamsul Ari Abu Bakar, in Putrajaya. The President, Academician Datuk Dr Tengku Mohd Azzman Shariffadeen FASc, represented ASM. The visit was also attended by MOSTI Secretary-General Datuk Ts Dr Hj Aminuddin Hassim, MOSTI Deputy Secretary General (Technology Development) Datuk Ts Dr Mohd Nor Azman Hassan, ASM CEO Pn Hazami Habib, and ASM Chief Strategic Officer Pn Nitia Samuel.

Among the discussions held during the visit highlighted the role of the National Science Council (NSC) in strengthening the nation’s STIE ecosystem. Before this, members of the NSC agreed to the recommendation to improve the governance structure of the NSC and the formation of the Science Coordination and Monitoring Committee (JKPSN) during the NSC Meeting on 4 November 2024. The Chief Secretary will chair JKPSN to the government.

Through the visit, the Chief Secretary was briefed on more information regarding strengthening the NSC, and he also provided feedback on the matter. NSC was formed with the agreement of the Cabinet on 22 September 2015. NSC acts as the highest national committee on matters of STIE governance.
