ASEAN STI Workshop on Challenges & Opportunities
October 14, 2024The International Science, Technology and Innovation Centre for South-South Cooperation (ISTIC), under the auspices of UNESCO, in collaboration with the Centre for Science & Technology of the Non-Aligned and Other Developing Countries (NAM S&T Centre) jointly organised the International Training Programme on STI Policy: Roles of STI for Excellence in Commercialization in Emerging Economies, which took place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from 12-14 September 2024.
The training programme aimed to build capacity in STI policy, focusing on commercialisation. It equipped participants, policymakers, researchers, and industry leaders with practical tools and knowledge to enhance innovation and commercial success. The programme covered effective STI policy frameworks, best practices and case studies and facilitated valuable networking opportunities to bridge the gap between research and market readiness.
ASM CEO Puan Hazami Habib delivered a special lecture in which she provided an in-depth overview of Malaysia’s experience with STI policy development. She outlined Malaysia’s strategic approaches and key initiatives to advance its STI agenda in her presentation. This lecture offered valuable perspectives on how Malaysia navigated its STI landscape and could serve as a model for other countries seeking to enhance their STI frameworks.
