ASM Science Journal: Modelling Malaysia’s Demand of Fresh Meat

On 12 March 2026, Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim chaired the Mesyuarat Majlis Tindakan Ekonomi Negara (MTEN) Bilangan 1 Tahun 2026, during which two key policy papers were deliberated, focusing on the Orange Economy, which encompasses the creative industries, and the nation’s Blue Economy agenda.
In addressing the Blue Economy, the meeting underscored the strategic importance of responsibly and sustainably leveraging marine resources, coastal areas, and inland waters.
Dato’ Seri Anwar emphasised that development in this sector must be sustainable, inclusive, and resilient, while delivering meaningful economic benefits to the nation and its people.
The Malaysia Blue Economy Blueprint (MBEB) 2026–2040 was developed by ASM as a strategic partner to the Ministry of Economy.
The blueprint serves as a comprehensive long‑term plan to guide the development of Malaysia’s blue economy and was strengthened through contributions from 36 experts comprising academics and industry representatives.
By 2040, the implementation of blue economy policies and initiatives under the MBEB is projected to contribute to RM1.07 trillion to the national Gross Domestic Product (GDP), driven by advancements in technology and innovation across related sectors.
The blueprint also highlights the critical role of science, technology, and innovation (STI) in ensuring that Malaysia’s blue economy develops in a knowledge‑based, sustainable, and globally competitive manner.
To realise these aspirations, seven high‑potential sectors have been identified as key drivers to strengthen socioeconomic progress, enhance national resilience, and position Malaysia as a leader in sustainable blue economy development.

The continued collaboration between government, industry, and academia remains crucial to achieving the RM1.07 trillion GDP target by 2040, ensuring Malaysia’s blue economy delivers both national prosperity and global sustainability leadership.
