Water Sector Transformation 2040 (WST2040)
April 27, 2023The development of the National Planetary Health Action Plan (NPHAP) was mandated by the NSC meeting chaired by the Prime Minister on 8 April 2022. The national-level action plan is an integrated initiative driven by STIE to mainstream planetary health in all national policies and plans through a holistic and whole-of-nation approach towards addressing the ecosystem, biodiversity health and climate change for sustainable development.
ASM has engaged stakeholders through webinars and forums, to discuss and gain inclusive input. These engagements have also served as platforms to spread awareness on the current condition of our planet besides gathering input to develop national-level action plans.
A comprehensive NPHAP considers natural crisis, sustainable food system, governance and people empowerment, leadership and redesign of solutions through a whole-of-nation approach.
NPHAP would focus on the following:
-
Develope a surveillance, monitoring and impact tracking system (STIE Trend Watch) for planetary health as an enabler for the implementation of NPHAP.
-
Increase research and development in zoonosis towards developing a national database for environmental genomics. This effort aims to control and prevent zoonotic diseases holistically through the Malaysia Genome and Vaccine Institute (MGVI) and related agencies.
