2024 ASM Northern Chapter Roadshow

The 2024 ASM Northern Chapter Roadshow, in collaboration with strategic partner Northern Corridor Implementation Authority (NCIA), held on 8 May 2024, marks the third instalment following roadshows in Sarawak and the East Coast.

This one-day event featured engaging sessions, commencing with the 10-10 MySTIE Technologies Series and Innovation Kopitiam, discussing the topic of “Next-Generation Semiconductor Industry: Smart Technology & Systems.”

A concern was raised about competition in the semiconductor industry from the East and West and how Malaysia positions itself amidst this paradox. It was noted that despite currently adopting assembly technologies from both regions, Malaysia is attracting customers due to its neutral stance in geopolitical tensions. In collaboration with MIMOS, Malaysia works towards the localised development of 2.5D integrated circuits.

The second half of the session was dedicated to the 39^th ideaXchange titled “Positioning Northern Corridor as a Hub of Global Smart Technologies”, where delegates discussed the importance of producing talents capable of handling future technologies and being prepared for the industry, particularly entrepreneurs.

As electronics and software will enable most future innovations, talents must be equipped with the necessary tools and skills to innovate. Delegates agreed that collaboration and non-traditional approaches would accelerate the positioning of the Northern Corridor as the hub of global smart technologies.

Throughout the roadshow, ASM showcased initiatives and programmes such as the Malaysia Open Science Platform (MOSP), 10-10 MySTIE Framework, e-estidotmy, Planetary Health, Tropical Science Foundation, Science Communications, and career opportunities.
