Embracing Change, Shifting Mindsets: Mission-Oriented R&D
May 14, 2026On 25 April 2026, the 31st ASM Annual General Meeting convened Senior Fellows and Fellows in a hybrid setting, providing a platform to reflect on progress while reinforcing governance, strategic alignment and collective decision-making for ASM.
In his Presidential Address, ASM President, Academician Datuk Dr Tengku Mohd Azzman Shariffadeen FASc, outlined the ASM’s strategic direction in navigating increasing complexity and uncertainty.
ASM continues to strengthen our role as a national STIE thought leader and super-connector, advancing integrated and mission-oriented approaches across the ecosystem.
Key efforts include the RDICE Roadmap to enhance governance and coordination, the Malaysia Science Endowment to catalyse sustainable funding and industry collaboration, and the Innovation Readiness Level to bridge the research-to-impact gap.
These efforts are complemented by major national and regional contributions, including the National Education Reform study, the National Planetary Health Action Plan, and the ASEAN Ahead report, reinforcing ASM’s role in translating evidence into coordinated action and long-term national and regional value.
ASM also welcomed newly elected Senior Fellows, Academician Professor Emeritus Datuk Dr Awg Bulgiba Awg Mahmud FASc and Academician Dr Helen Nair FASc, Council Members and Fellows, while expressing appreciation to outgoing council members for their service.
Today, ASM’s Fellowship stands at 556 members across eight disciplines. ASM also extends its sincere appreciation to all Fellows who participated, whose continued dedication and contributions remain central to ASM’s impact and progress.
