August 30, 2018Philippine Science High School (SOCCSKSARGEN Region Campus) who represented Team Philippines B emerged as the overall champions of the 7th ASEAN Plus Three Junior Science Odyssey (APT JSO).
The overall runner-up title went to Sekolah Menengah Sains Kuching Sarawak representing Team Malaysia D. Meanwhile, Team Republic of Korea B, which was represented by students from different schools, took home the title of the overall second runner-up.
The 7th APT JSO was held from 29 July to 4 August 2018 in various locations throughout Kuala Lumpur. A significant portion of the competition was conducted in Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). Other venues include the National Science Centre, National Planetarium and Petrosains KLCC.
An Opening Ceremony was held on 30 July 2018 at UPM, officiated by YB Madam Yeo Bee Yin, Minister of Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change (MESTECC).
Carrying the theme “Science and Innovation for Good Health and Societal Wellbeing”, the 7th APT JSO Competition is an international science competition that is designed to develop gifted and talented young individuals in the field of science and technology and to nurture future scientists and engineers.
The competition aims to encourage students to develop greater interest in the field of STI; to promote the sharing of ideas and knowledge on how STI can shape good health and societal wellbeing; to intensify students’ intellectual curiosity and interest in STI through experiential learning; and to foster friendship and networking among participants in the APT member countries.
The 7th APT JSO Competition features three main modules as the core components of the competition together with two supporting modules. The overall champion of the 7th APT JSO is the team with the highest marks from all three main modules of the competition.
Aside from the Modules for the students, accompanying teachers from all ASEAN+3 (APT) member countries also participated in the APT Teachers Networking Programme, featuring four programmes hosted by Sekolah Seri Puteri, Pusat Permata Pintar, Sekolah Sukan Bukit Jalil and Sekolah Menengah Pendidikan Khas Vokasional Shah Alam.
