ASM Fellows Elected as TWAS 2025 Fellows
December 30, 2024The Ministry of Economy (ME) has appointed ASM as a strategic partner for the National Education Reform (NER) study. The study aims to recommend comprehensive education reforms to the government to strengthen the development of future-proof talent. This would also entail identifying strategies and priority areas and setting the macro direction for talent development through the five-year Malaysia Plans.
The education reforms to be proposed need to be evidence-based and will involve extensive nationwide stakeholder engagements. Currently, ME and ASM are in the process of conducting regional stakeholder engagements across Malaysia. This engagement session will be a platform for exchanging inputs and gathering insights and recommendations related to the focus areas for education reform. The input from the stakeholder engagement will be taken up in developing the framework for education under the 13th Malaysia Plan.
The first stakeholder engagement session was held in the Northern region (Penang) on 14 and 15 October 2024. Followed by Sabah on 7 and 8 November 2024. For both workshops, the Deputy Director (Education) of the Human Capital Development Division of ME, Datin Dr Syahirah Hamidon, delivered the welcome remarks, followed by scene-setting by ASM CEO Puan Hazami Habib. The event then proceeded to breakout discussions highlighting key issues and challenges as well as bold and innovative recommendations for strategies and initiatives for Malaysia’s education sector.
Three remaining regional workshops are scheduled: Sarawak on 21 and 22 November 2024, the East Coast (Kelantan) on 27 and 28 November 2024, and the Southern region (Johor) on 4 and 5 December 2024. ASM extends its sincere gratitude to all stakeholders participating in the regional workshop for their invaluable contributions and insights, which play a pivotal role in shaping the future landscape of Malaysia’s education system.
