ASM Town Hall 2025: Uniting Experts for National Innovation

On 23 January 2025, the ASM second town hall session was held with the President, Academician Datuk Dr Tengku Mohd Azzman Shariffadeen FASc. Due to wide interest, the town hall has been extended to all Expert Network members, including Senior Fellows, Fellows, YSN-ASM, Top Research Scientists Malaysia (TRSM), and Associates.

In his opening remarks, the ASM President highlighted ASM’s crucial role in advancing Malaysia as an innovative nation. He stressed the need to shift focus from infrastructure to knowledge creation, address mindset challenges, and transition from value extraction to value creation.

“If not us, then who? If not now, then when?” Reflecting on this sentiment, the ASM President believes that the Expert Network is comprised of individuals with the knowledge to effect change, as they can bridge all stakeholders, take a more hands-on approach, engage actively, break down silos, and align policies with national strategies.

Later that day, the ASM President convened with the ASM Chapters Chair and secretariat, as well as Chairs and representatives from the WEHAB and WEHAB++ committees and members of YSN-ASM. This session provided a platform for the group to review their ongoing activities, share updates, and discuss initiatives planned for 2025.

The discussions also highlighted regional strengths and opportunities. Datuk Tengku Azzman expressed his hope for every member’s active contribution of expertise and collaboration toward impactful outcomes that benefit both the regions and the wider community.
