Scaling Up Malaysia’s Homegrown Cleantech
July 16, 2026On 22 June 2026, ASM held a productive engagement with Universiti Malaya (UM), reinforcing a shared commitment to advancing science, higher education and knowledge leadership for the nation.
Led by Academician Emeritus Professor Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr Mazlan Othman FASc, the ASM delegation met with UM Vice-Chancellor Professor Datuk Ir Dr Noor Azuan Abu Osman FASc to discuss opportunities for deeper collaboration to strengthen and shape ArtScience in Malaysia through transdisciplinary learning, research and innovation.
The engagement highlighted the important role of universities, national academies and the scientific community in nurturing future talent, advancing research excellence and ensuring that knowledge generates meaningful impact for society.
As Malaysia’s thought leader in Science, Technology, Innovation and Economy (STIE), ASM values strategic partnerships that encourage evidence-based thinking, interdisciplinary collaboration and national development. Discussions focused on how both institutions can work together to enhance transdisciplinary learning and ArtScience understanding, encourage innovation, and contribute to the country’s long-term progress.
A key area of discussion was the aspiration to establish the UM-ASM Centre of ArtScience. This proposed transdisciplinary platform brings together science, technology, the humanities, the arts, design, culture, and society.
The proposed initiative reflects a growing global emphasis on knowledge convergence, where diverse perspectives and fields of expertise come together to generate innovative solutions and fresh insights.
By integrating scientific discovery with creativity, culture and human-centred thinking, the Centre of ArtScience has the potential to become a hub for innovation, public engagement and impactful knowledge creation.
ASM looks forward to strengthening its collaboration with UM and exploring opportunities to realise this shared vision. Such efforts underscore the importance of building bridges across disciplines and institutions to advance knowledge for society.
