Continuing its efforts to promote cancer research among Malaysian scientists, the National Cancer Council Malaysia (MAKNA) awarded three outstanding young scientists with the Cancer Research Award 2017 on 9 April 2018.
The three outstanding young scientists are: Conlathan Ibau from Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), Dr Kue Chin Siang from Management and Science University (MSU) and Dr Abdullah Al-Hadi bin Ahmad Fuaad from Universiti Malaya (UM).
Conlathan Ibau was awarded RM27,295 for his research titled Novel Impedimetric Sensors for Early Detection of Prostate Cancer (PCa).
Dr Kue Chin Siang research titled Immunotherapeutic Approach of Tropomyosin Receptor Kinase C Positive Cancer: A Preclinical Study in Metastatic Breast Cancer via Antibody-Dependent Cellular Phagocytosis was awarded RM29,480.
Meanwhile, Dr Abdullah Al-Hadi received RM30,000 for his research titled Development of a Novel Liposome-Based Hybrid Anticancer Drug for Colorectal Cancer Therapy.
Professor Tan Sri Dato' (Dr) Dzulkifli Abdul Razak FASc presented the Cancer Research Awards to the 2017 recipients, accompanied by Academician Tan Sri Dato' Ir Ts Ahmad Zaidee Laidin FASc.
A panel of distinguished ASM Fellows led by ASM Fellow Professor Datin Paduka Dr Khatijah Mohd Yusoff have evaluated and selected the top three young scientists whose research proved to be promising and would potentially bring about significant progress in cancer research in Malaysia.
To date, MAKNA has awarded a total of RM1.46 million to 51 recipients since 2011.
