April 2, 2019In conjunction with the International Women’s Day, the Malaysian Invention and Design Society (MINDS) celebrated the achievements of Malaysian women scientists by organising a National Conference on Scientific Achievements by Malaysian Women on 9 March 2019. The Conference was officiated by YB Madam Isnaraissah Munirah Majilis, Deputy Minister of MESTECC.
President of MINDS, Academician Tan Sri Emeritus Professor Dr Augustine Yong started off the conference with a welcoming address. In his address, Dr Augustine acknowledged the contributions of Malaysian women scientists who have made great strides in the advancement of science and technology.
The Conference witnessed YB Isnaraissah awarding ASM Fellow Professor Datin Paduka Dr Khatijah Yusoff with the inaugural Lifetime Scientific Research Achievement Women’s Award. Following her receipt of the award, Professor Khatijah also detailed her journey on repurposing the Newcastle disease virus (NDV) for cancer via her keynote address.
A series of lectures were delivered by several prominent women scientists from various disciplines, following a coffee break and a tour of the exhibition area. The prominent women scientists each delivered their presentation on their academic and professional journey in science, as well as top tips for future scientists on how to excel in their respective fields. The audience were also given the opportunity to engage with each scientist with a Q&A session.
