Professor Dr Lim Chee Peng from the Deakin University, Australia, conducted a public lecture titled “Machine Learning for Small and Big Data Analytics for Industrial Problems”.
The public lecture was held on 13 November 2018 at Universiti Teknologi Nasional (UNITEN). It was organised to share and elucidate the capability of machine learning (ML) in extracting useful information and knowledge from small to big data for decision analytics in various sectors such as healthcare, manufacturing and transportation.
In the public lecture, Professor Lim shared his experience in designing and developing ML models, primarily neural, fuzzy, and evolutionary models as well as showed examples of the real-world applications of ML in various industries.
The public lecture was attended by 67 participants, notably the Chairman on ASM Special Interest Group on Machine Learning (SIGML), YM Academician Datuk Dr Tengku Mohd Azzman Shariffadeen FASc.

The public lecture was co-organised The Academy of Sciences Malaysia (ASM) Special Interest Group on Machine Learning (SIGML), Collaborative Research in Engineering, Science and Technology (CREST) and University Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN).
After the public lecture, representatives of the ASM SIGML, CREST and UNITEN had a closed-door discussion with Professor Lim on the possible areas as well as the strategic interventions needed to accelerate the adoption of ML in the energy sector in Malaysia.
