TRIZ Workshop 2019
October 18, 2019Promoting Institutional Oversight Mechanisms to Address Biosecurity Threats from Emerging Technologies
October 18, 2019An Active Learning Workshop on the Effective Implementation of Student-centred Learning Techniques was held at ASM from 20 to 21 September 2019.
The Workshop was the result of a collaboration between the Science Education Working Group of the Young Scientists Network-ASM and the Centre for Engineering Education (CEE) of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM).
Participants had the opportunity to learn about student-centred learning in classes through the workshop conducted by Professor Dr Khairiyah Mohd Yusof (ASM Associate and Director of UTM’s Centre for Engineering Education) and Dr Syed Ahmad Helmi Syed Hassan (UTM Senior Lecturer).
At the end of the two-day Workshop, participants were expected to understand the needs and importance of student-centred learning methods in classrooms. In addition, they should also be able to describe the differences between cooperative learning and group-based learning.
Plus, active learning techniques that can be used in classrooms are also learnt by participants, aside from techniques to form learning teams, and planning an aligned learning environment to support students’ learning.
Moving forward, participants may also conduct their own training sessions for their students and other STEM teachers to impart what they have learnt through this Workshop.
