October 18, 2019The Young Scientists Network-Academy of Sciences Malaysia (YSN-ASM) organised a TRIZ Workshop from 22 to 23 August 2019 at ASM.
The two-day workshop was organised under the YSN-ASM Science Leadership Working Group to provide the 18 finalists of the YSN-ASM Rising Star Awards with higher-order thinking skills to boost their creativity and innovation abilities.
Ir. Dr Ng Poh Kiat conducted the TRIZ Level 1 workshop. He is a YSN-ASM member as well as a Level 3 Certified Professional of MATRIZ and a Level 1 & 2 Instructor of MyTRIZ, a Malaysian non-profit organisation that educates people on the TRIZ methodology.
At the Workshop, participants were taught systematic problem-solving methods based on logic and data. The programme covered topics such as the history of TRIZ, insights of the profound discovery, in-depth knowledge into TRIZ techniques as well as application aspects of the methodology.
At the end of the workshop, the finalists were required to sit for a certification test for them to be certified as a MyTRIZ Level 1 Practitioner.
TRIZ is the Russian acronym for “Theory of Inventive Problem Solving”. It is a systematic problem-solving method based on logic and data, not intuition or spontaneous creativity of individuals or groups. TRIZ provides repeatability, predictability and reliability due to its structure and algorithmic approach. It also improves individual or team’s ability to solve problems.
