Malaysian Students Earn Prestigious CERN Placement
August 14, 2026The Ministry of Urban Development and Natural Resources (MUDeNR), in collaboration with the Sarawak Economic Planning Unit (EPU Sarawak), organised the Workshop on Rare Earth Element (REE) Industry Development in Sarawak from 14 to 16 July 2026.
The workshop provided a platform to consolidate and validate inputs towards the development of Sarawak’s REE industry, following the establishment of the Sarawak REE Development Special Committee in May 2026.
The initiative aims to explore the potential of REE resources in supporting Sarawak’s strategic industries, including the semiconductor and aerospace sectors.
Representing ASM were Dato’ P.Geol. Sia Hok Kiang FASc and Ir. Dr Selamat Aliman FASc, who shared insights from ASM’s previous study, Business Model for the Development of Ion Adsorption Clay Rare Earths Industry in Malaysia in 2023.
The three-day workshop brought together representatives from relevant government agencies, industry, and other stakeholders to exchange perspectives on the opportunities and considerations involved in developing a sustainable and competitive REE industry in Sarawak.
