The Fellowship of the Academy is a recognition given to Malaysian citizens who are outstanding scientists, engineers and technologists. The recognition of Fellows is for life and carries the abbreviation of “FASc” to be used after the recipient’s name.
New Fellows are elected annually at the Annual General Meeting after going through a stringent selection process.
Fellows are categorised according to their expertise, and grouped according to discipline groups. To date, ASM has 353 Fellows in eight discipline groups.
Datuk Asma welcomed the newly elected Fellows to join ASM in the pursuit of excellence in science. She stated that ASM’s capability and capacity in meeting the rising demands relies on the level of active participation of its Fellows. ASM would not be able to achieve its goals and sustain its reputation as a national Thought Leader without the Fellows’ commitment and contributions.
Furthermore, Datuk Asma detailed the ways the Fellows can contribute to ASM, such as leading working committees or becoming a member of one; publishing articles, reviews and commentaries in the ASM Journal; and Fellows could also take part in the governance as an elected Council Member.
