January 16, 2022The Young Scientists Network-Academy of Sciences Malaysia (YSN-ASM) held their annual colloquium on a virtual platform from 10 to 12 December 2021.
The YSN-ASM Colloquium brings together YSN-ASM members and affiliates to celebrate every individual’s professional and personal accomplishments, as well as YSN-ASM’s collective impact. It is also during this programme where YSN-ASM’s programmes and activities will be strategised.
Day One
YSN-ASM Chairperson Associate Professor Dr Chai Lay Ching started the three-day programme with an introduction to the new members. Then, the chairs or co-chairs of each of the eight Working Groups presented a brief introduction on the roles and objectives. This is to ensure that new members have a good grasp of each Working Group to help them decide which group to become a member.
One of the main agendas of the YSN-ASM Colloquium is to elect new Executive Committee (EXCO) members and Working Group Chairs. Therefore, a brief video was prepared by each candidate containing their manifestos to convince the other members on why they are eligible for a particular position.
Day Two
Day two of the YSN-ASM Colloquium started with an announcement of the new EXCO members and Working Group Chairs and Co-chairs.
The CEO of the Academy of Sciences Malaysia, Mdm Hazami Habib attended the YSN-ASM Colloquium to introduce ASM’s identity, vision, and mission. This was followed by a Breakout Session of the Working Groups. All members are encouraged to go to the Working Group in which they want to contribute.
The second day of the Colloquium concluded with a presentation of the Working Group Strategic Plans.
Day Three
The third day of the Colloquium was the closing ceremony, where Associate Professor Dr Chai Lay Ching presented the report on the 2021 YSN-ASM Colloquium.
Dr Chai presented on YSN-ASM’s visions and goals, as well as the strategic plan for 2019-2021. Plus, she also elaborated on YSN-ASM’s updated organisation structure and reported on the programmes that have been carried out by each Working Group. Dr Chai also highlighted the tenth anniversary of YSN-ASM in 2022.
Aside from the report on YSN-ASM, participants of the closing ceremony also witnessed the MoU Signing Ceremony between ASM and Merck Malaysia with PETROSAINS Sdn Bhd.
