Honouring Puan Hazami’s Legacy of Leadership
July 16, 2026On 24 June 2026, ASM welcomed a delegation from Jabatan Kerja Raya (JKR) Sarawak for a courtesy visit to explore opportunities for collaboration in research, innovation, infrastructure development, and talent advancement.
Led by Director Datu Adj Professor Ir Ts Gs Br PMr QPr Dr Cassidy anak Morris, the visit brought together representatives from JKR Sarawak, ASM Fellows and members of ASM’s Talent Development Committee and Engineering Sciences Discipline.
ASM Chief Strategy Officer Puan Nitia Samuel presented ASM’s mandate, strategic frameworks, and key initiatives, highlighting its contributions to evidence-based policymaking, talent development, and strengthening partnerships across government, academia, and industry.
A key part of the discussion was how ASM’s network of experts could contribute to Sarawak’s development priorities. JKR Sarawak expressed interest in leveraging ASM’s multidisciplinary expert network to address challenges in infrastructure planning, project implementation, and the adoption of innovation. Potential areas of cooperation include construction and geotechnical engineering, quarry resource optimisation, sustainable construction materials, digital technologies, and higher-value applications of local mineral resources.
The discussion also covered broader sustainability and resilience issues, including climate change adaptation, disaster risk reduction, landslide mitigation, peat-related infrastructure challenges, waste management and the development of greener infrastructure solutions.
Another important theme was strengthening the translation of research into practical applications. JKR Sarawak is ready to foster innovation and promote the practical application of research outcomes through collaborative engagements with relevant stakeholders. The team explored potential areas of collaboration with universities and industry partners, including internships, scholarships, applied research, and talent development initiatives.
The engagement reflects a shared commitment to fostering innovation, developing future talent and delivering sustainable, evidence-based solutions that support Sarawak’s long-term growth and resilience.
