BPKLP Director Mdm Hizatul Haliza Hashim led the delegation and shared updates on the Agricultural TVET initiative, which was presented to the Cabinet and subsequently to the Chief Secretary to the Government (KSN). The engagement provided an opportunity to discuss strategic approaches to strengthening the agricultural talent pipeline and workforce development ecosystem.
Discussions highlighted several challenges affecting career development in the agricultural sector, including limited industry exposure, insufficient hands-on training, and unclear career pathways for graduates. Participants also emphasised the need to professionalise agricultural occupations, including agrologists and agricultural technology operators.
Key priorities for agricultural TVET transformation included enhancing curricula by integrating smart and precision agriculture, automation, data analytics, digital technologies, and entrepreneurship. Participants also emphasised internships, apprenticeships, industry-recognised certifications, and living labs to provide experiential learning opportunities.
Industry participation in curriculum development, skills forecasting, training delivery, and technology demonstration was recognised as critical to ensuring programme relevance and graduate employability.
The discussion also explored a potential additional mission under the Mission-Oriented Initiative (MOI): Food Sovereignty and Security, aimed at aligning talent development, R&D, industry engagement, and government interventions.
ASM remains committed to supporting efforts to attract and develop future talent in agricultural TVET.
