Malaysia Science Endowment Partners with UK to Boost International Research Collaboration

On 29 January 2024, ASM welcomed the Department of International Affairs delegation at the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) led by its Director, Mr Osamu Kobayashi.
The visit by JST is to introduce the initiative on Japan-ASEAN collaboration in Science, Technology, and Innovation. During the discussion, JST and ASM look forward to strengthening the collaboration between both countries and identifying common priority areas in research as potential matching research grants with the Malaysia Science Endowment.
During the meeting, ASM CEO Mdm Hazami Habib thanked JST for their unwavering commitment to securing spots for National Science Challenge 2023 winners in the Sakura Science Exchange Programme.
In March 2023, Prime Minister KISHIDA Fumio announced Japan’s commitment of USD 100 million to the Japan-ASEAN Integration Fund (JAIF) 3.0. This new funding initiative, coinciding with the 50th Year of ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation, aims to support concrete initiatives aligned with the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP).
The AOIP shares foundational principles with Japan’s Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP) concept, emphasising openness, transparency, inclusivity, and rule-based frameworks. It underscores Japan’s role in promoting a free and open international order based on the rule of law in the region.
The funding will also implement the Joint Vision Statement on ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation and its associated Implementation Plan, adopted during the Commemorative Summit in December 2023, further solidifying ASEAN-Japan ties and regional stability.
