On 5 April 2024, ASM co-hosted the “Beyond COVID-19: Innovating for the Next Pandemic” workshop in collaboration with Monash University Malaysia and Crowell & Moring International.
The workshop, supported by Pfizer (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, brought together health-related experts from ministries, academia, private sectors, and civil society organisations to discuss actionable strategies and key recommendations to strengthen pandemic preparedness and health systems resilience in Malaysia.
In her opening remarks, Professor Dr Rosnah Mohd Zain FASc, Chairperson of the ASM COVID-19 Position Paper, highlighted the importance of developing actionable strategies through a participatory approach involving all sectors to fortify readiness for future pandemics.
The workshop, coordinated by the WEHAB++ Health Committee, included 11 ASM experts in the Special Interest Group (SIG) on COVID-19 and SIG Zoonosis. The ASM’s COVID-19 Position Paper 2021 was recognised and cited as a foundational resource for discussions at the workshop.
The workshop also engaged inputs from in-depth breakout discussions of actionable strategies and roles by various stakeholders and key enablers within the framework. Recommendations gathered from the workshop will be incorporated into a White Paper for consideration by the Ministry of Health in due course.
