Advancing Mission-Oriented Research at UTM
August 14, 2026On 15 July 2026, ASM was honoured to receive a courtesy visit from the Malaysia Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT), represented by Academician Emeritus Professor Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Dr Zakri Abdul Hamid FASc, together with the International Network for Government Science Advice (INGSA), led by its President, Professor Rémi Quirion.
The visit opened with a reflection on ASM’s long-standing involvement with INGSA. The INGSA delegation acknowledged that ASM’s APECOSA workshop series had been supported by a Seeds of Science Asia (SoSA) grant under the ISC Regional Focal Point (ISC-RFP) and by the International Network for Government Science Advice in Asia (INGSA-Asia). This shared history set a warm and constructive tone for the discussions that followed.
The visit provided a valuable platform for dialogue on strategic collaboration between ASM and INGSA, with particular attention to the upcoming INGSA Conference 2027, to be held in Kuching, Sarawak.
Discussions began with an overview of the conference before moving into a rich exchange of ideas on key thematic areas, including science advice for science diplomacy, biodiversity, indigenous knowledge, cybersecurity, digital literacy, and building public trust in science.
ASM also highlighted its Sarawak Chapter, led by Datu Lulie Anak Joshua Melling FASc, underscoring ASM’s on-the-ground reach and relevance to the conference’s host state.
