November 15, 2023On 6 October 2023, the International Science Council in collaboration with the Academy of Sciences Malaysia and the Australian Academy of Science co-organised the Global Knowledge Dialogue (GKD) for Asia and the Pacific 2023. ASM was honoured to extend a warm welcome to more than 130 international delegates from 31 countries to Malaysia.
We were deeply honoured to have the Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), Yang Berhormat Datuk Arthur Joseph Kurup, to officiate the event. In his speech, he emphasised that strategic alliances and collaborations help create global solutions for global knowledge, urging partners to contribute continuously through international cooperation.
ASM President, Academician Datuk Dr Tengku Mohd Azzman Shariffadeen FASc echoed that cooperation and collaboration in an open and inclusive dialogue are essential in formulating the mission to build a more sustainable future.
GKD 2023 focused on how to progress the role of science in achieving Sustainable Development Goals in Asia and the Pacific. The outcomes from the various sessions will inform programmes and activities of the ISC Regional Focal Point for Asia and the Pacific and help to identify regional priorities, opportunities, and challenges with a particular focus on how to fund and undertake science for sustainability now and into the future.
