April 15, 2018The International Forum on Science Education organised by the InterAcademy Panel – Science Education Programme (IAP SEP) and Pakistan Academy of Sciences (PAS) was held on 9 April 2018 in Islamabad, Pakistan.
ASM Fellow, Chairman of IAP SEP as well as President of Academy of Engineering and Technology for the Developing World (AETDEW), Academician Dato’ Dr (Ir) Lee Yee Cheong FASc represented the Academy of Sciences Malaysia at this programme.
Academician Dato’ Dr (Ir) Lee Yee Cheong FASc delivered his keynote speech on IAP SEP and its Global Science Education. He then moderated the first panel discussion titled “Science Education – The Best Practices Around the Globe”.
This will be Dato’ Lee’s final year as the Chairman of IAP SEP; the leadership will be transferred to a representative from Sudan next year.
With the theme “Quality Science Education at Schools – A Must for Quality Higher Education and Economic Development”, this forum focused on thematic and social aspects of some of the most burning issues of science and society.
The forum was held to discuss the role of science education in advancing the nation’s economic development via better quality higher education. The forum would also contribute to initiating the debate in Pakistan on science education, sharing of global experiences and the understanding of new paths for improvement of human life, sustainable economic growth and policy making by employing effective science education approaches such as Inquiry Based Science Education (IBSE).
The global scientific community was given an opportunity to join the discussion to determine which efforts should be invested to make science advance in response to the expectations of society, as well as to address the challenges posed to human and social development.
