February 15, 2022The Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation Sabah (KSTI) organised a workshop on KSTI Policy Roadmap and Strategic Plan from 12 to 15 January 2022 at the Magellan Sutera Resort in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. The main objective of the workshop was to draft a suitable policy roadmap and strategic plan for KSTI from the year 2022 to 2025.
In relation to this, ASM was cordially invited by KSTI to attend the workshop to share its expertise and experience in science policy, strategic studies, and programmes in national scientific development.
ASM CEO Puan Hazami Habib, ASM Fellow and Chair of the ASM Sabah Chapter Dr Rahimatsah Amat FASc, and ASM Chief Strategic Officer (CSO), Puan Nitia Samuel participated in the four-day workshop. Also attending were ASM Analysts Nurul Rahimah and Noratiqah Ahmad, as well as the Special Officer to the CEO, Nina Azrah.
The workshop started off with a presentation by ASM CEO on ASM’s flagship study, the 10-10 MySTIE Framework, to KSTI that was adopted as a baseline for KSTI Policy Roadmap and Strategic Plan 2022-2025. There were three breakout sessions throughout the workshop:
(i) Science Enculturation Policy
(ii) Human Capital Policy
(iii) Digital Technology
The KSTI workshop was led by Tuan Haji Zainudin Aman, Permanent Secretary of KSTI and coordinated by Tuan Mokhzani Aris Mohd Yusof, Director of Malaysia Productivity Corporation (MPC). Former Deputy Secretary General of MOSTI and current Deputy Vice Chancellor of Universiti Malaysia Sabah, Associate Professor Ts Dr Ramzah Dambul also actively participated in the workshop. Other organisations from Sabah that attended the workshop include the Sabah Education Division, Sabah Net Sdn Bhd, Petrosains Sabah, Sabah Creative Economy and Innovation Centre, Sabah State Library and Sabah Human Resource Division.
The workshop ended with a presentation from each breakout session, followed by a draft of the Policy Roadmap and Strategic Plan for KSTI 2022-2025. The workshop was also a great opportunity for ASM to understand the strengths and shortcomings of the Sabah State government in matters pertaining to STIE and social development.
As a follow-up of the workshop in Sabah, KSTI recently visited the Academy on 26 January 2022. Moving forward, ASM will sign a MoU with KSTI to officiate the collaboration between both parties.
