The JSPS Alumni Association Malaysia (JAAM), in collaboration with ASM & Japan Society for Promotion of Science (JSPS), on 19 August 2023, co-organised a symposium titled “Towards the Science of Active Aging”.
The keynote presentation was delivered by Professor Dr Masashi Yanagisawa, Director of the International Institutes for Integrative Sleep Medicine, University of Tsukuba. He emphasised the importance of sleep not only for individuals but also for economic wealth. As such, Dr Masashi presented the correlation of average time of sleep against the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of a country.
This symposium is hoped to benefit participants in response to Malaysia moving towards an ageing society and in prepping the nation for developing and implementing a community-based support programme for Malaysia’s future ageing society.
