October 15, 2022The World Forum on Women in Science, Malaysia 2022 was held in conjunction with the 7th International Conference for Women in Science Without Borders.
Held on 13-14 September 2022, the World Forum for Women in Science, Malaysia 2022 was an opportunity to highlight the role of science in building a sustainable future for all through science, technology, and innovation.
The forum targeted scientists, students, practitioners, industrialists, journalists, and policy makers, among other key stakeholders in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
As basic science drives innovation and development, the discussions will endeavor to highlight gender equity in STEM as a driver for sustainable development.
The World Forum was officiated by Professor Dato’ Dr Mohd Roslan Sulaiman, Vice Chancellor of Universiti Putra Malaysia.
He expressed his confidence that this event would be a fantastic virtual meeting platform for interdisciplinary enthusiastic researchers to share and exchange ground-breaking thoughts with one another, which thusly prompting productive thoughts and making successful joint efforts later.
He also remarked that the theme “Building a Gender Inclusive Sustainable Future through Science, Technology, and Innovation” is in line with UPM’s strategic plan to strengthen the research university as a centre of excellence in research and innovation internationally, even during the post COVID- 19 era.
ASM President Professor Emerita Datuk Dr Asma Ismail FASc was the patron of the World Forum on Women in Science, Malaysia 2022.
Datuk Dr Asma believes that the conference will be able to inspire women in academia and gear them toward more diverse views on multidisciplinary sciences research. In addition, this event may improve skills in promoting research and enhancing presentation skills, especially among young scientists. Likewise, she trusts that this conference and forum will be a platform that unites participants, especially enthusiastic experts and researchers, in enhancing interdisciplinary collaboration, further fostering new ideas, networking, and generating distinctive points of view in research.
The Chairperson of the World Forum for Women in Science, Malaysia 2022 & 7th International Conference for Women in Science Without Borders was Professor ChM Dr Mohd Basyaruddin Abdul Rahman FASc.
Prof Dr Basyaruddin explained that the theme was chosen with high hopes that the WISWB2022 will help unite global researchers in academia and industry and enable them to share common problems and ideas in solving worldwide problems.
The World Forum kicked off with the usual welcome speech and opening ceremony by notable VIPs, followed by insightful keynotes that allowed participants a look into issues pertinent to the topic in the context of the presenter’s home country.
Parallel sessions and discussion panels were also held throughout the two-day event that allowed participants to engage and exchange views and knowledge on STEM-related issues in every region as well as regional solutions.
